Fox News’ Sean Hannity interviews Newt Gingrich

Newt Gingrich came out swinging at President Obama in his first TV interview after announcing his candidacy for president, telling Fox News’ Sean Hannity that,

“This is not about one person in the Oval Office. This is about millions of Americans deciding that together we can win the future with the right policies leading to the right outcomes”, Gingrich said. “And then we have to win the argument that President Obama has the wrong policies, and they lead to the wrong outcomes”.
“.
Gingrich had fueled months of speculation about his intentions by holding off on an official announcement, but earlier Wednesday he spread the word by that he was in the race for the Republican nomination.

He said his first executive order would be to eliminate Obama’s so-called policy “czars”, but clarified that his greater goal would be to balance the budget over several years by growing the economy.

A new Gallup poll suggests that although many Americans know who Gingrich is, he will have a lot of work to do if he’s going to get their vote.

Among Republicans 84% recognize his name, but his Positive Intensity Score is only 11%, which is below this week’s average of 13% for all Republican contenders.

Mike Huckabee received the highest Positive Intensity Score at 24%.

Donald Trump, with 98% name recognition, had the lowest Positive Intensity Score of any of the 13 candidates polled by Gallup this week and it was zero.

Virginia – A Microcasm of Obama's Re-election Problems. The GOP presidential candidate line up continues to be a circus where the only sane candidates – Romney and Huntsman in my view – do not score well with the …

If Obama’s to get reelected, then he’ll need to overcome five major issues, and if he doesn’t, then he’ll lose, almost regardless of who is GOP opponent is!

His first and major problem is:

Jobs!

The single most important statistic affecting Obama’s reelection chances is the unemployment rate.

In April it stood at 9% which is up from 8.8% in March and that’s well above the historical norm for modern presidents who were reelected.

In March, a Wall Street Journal survey of economists predicted unemployment would be down to 7.7% by Election Day, but even that’s only just one-tenth of a percent lower than it was in November 1976, when President Ford lost to Jimmy Carter.

And, according to a Los Angeles Times analysis, that’s still higher than on two additional occasions when an incumbent president went down to defeat, in part because of high unemployment.

In 1980, President Carter lost to Ronald Reagan when unemployment was at 7.5%, and in 1992, a 7.4% unemployment rate helped Bill Clinton defeat George H. W. Bush.

In the post-World War II era, unemployment has only topped 7% four times on Election Day, and the incumbent has won only once and that was: President Reagan in 1984, when unemployment was at 7.2%.

The second problem is:

Obamacare!

A Rasmussen report issued on May 9 2011 found that support for repeal of the national health care law had rebounded after falling below 50% for the first time since it was passed by Congress in March of last year, and it now indicates that 57% of likely U.S. voters now favor at least a partial repeal of the law.

Just 36% oppose repeal, and those new findings include 44% who strongly favor repeal of the measure as against 26% who are strongly opposed.

If Romney is not the nominee, then the individual mandate is going to be an even bigger liability for Obama, and especially as the issue of its constitutionality works its way through the courts.

And in a bad piece of timing for the president, the case, or cases could reach the Supreme Court right in the thick of the 2012 campaign.

If the high court strikes down the individual mandate, or even the whole law, before the election, then that would be a huge embarrassment for Obama.

The third problem is:

Gas Prices

And I really wasn’t sure if I should make high gas prices the #1 issue because Americans hate them!

The fall in global oil prices at the end of the first week of May might well signal relief for consumers at the pump, but the spike in US gas prices to $4 a gallon, after a steady escalation in the cost of crude oil, remains a source of concern for the White House, both in its impact on consumers and the overall economy, as well as on Obama’s political fortunes.

Obama did say that, “that there’s no silver bullet to bring prices down”, and he did take very minimal action.

On April 21, he announced, “a Justice Department task force to monitor oil and gas markets for evidence of fraud or manipulation”, but it should perhaps be remembered that Obama has said that, “Gas prices at $4 would be OK”.

And the higher the gas price, the easier it will be for Obama to push his clean engergy agenda, but he’ll likely run out of time on that one.

The fourth problem is:

The Budget Deficit And National Debt

Obama ranks way down there when it comes to his handling of soaring deficits, and a dangerously high federal debt.

First, he kicked the can down the road by setting up a bipartisan fiscal commission, and after the commission came out with its recommendations, he ignored them!

And his proposed fiscal year 2012 budget, which was released in February, was widely panned for failing to address medical entitlements which are the biggest drivers of the looming crisis.

Then when Rep. Paul Ryan (R) of Wisconsin, chairman of the House Budget Committee, put out a budget plan with dramatic cuts, Obama simply responded with a “framework” for deficit reduction that was notably vague on how it would achieve promised major savings in Medicare and Medicaid.

And the latest Gallup poll shows 61% disapproval and only 33% approval!

Finally And Fifthly

Home Foreclosures

The Obama administration’s efforts to alleviate the home mortgage crisis have fallen way short of expectations.

In data released May 6, the departments of Housing and Urban Development and the Treasury reported that only 670,000 homeowners have been granted permanent mortgage modifications since the inception of the Home Affordable Modification Program in 2009, and of those, 83,000 subsequently have been disqualified.

The plans goal was to help 3 to 4 million homeowners.

Persistent high unemployment continues to put homeowners at risk of foreclosure and home values continue to decline.

Nationally, home prices are down 20% from their 2007 peak, and they’re only expected to hit rock bottom in 2012.

And according to the real estate data firm Zillow Inc., “In the first quarter of 2011, house prices fell 3% compared with the previous quarter, and more than 28% of single-family home owners owe more than their house is worth”.

All of the above is very bad news for Obama, in spite of what you see and hear in the left wing dominated media, and the question begs to be asked, “Can he overcome the five problems?”.

And the honest answer is, “Probably not”.

If he’s lucky he may overcome one or two of the problems, but that most likely won’t be enough.

Texas Rep. Ron Paul (R) is planning to announce the formation of a presidential exploratory committee on Tuesday in Iowa, and should make the announcement during a press conference in the state capital of Des Moines at 4:45 p.m. EDT (Eastern Daylight Time), 4/26/2011.

And according to a source close to the congressman, Paul also intends to name the members of his campaign’s Iowa leadership team, during the scheduled press conference,

Paul will be the fifth Republican to take the needed official step toward running for president, and an exploratory committee will allow him to begin assembling his campaign infrastructure in anticipation of a formal candidacy announcement.

Paul appeared poised to enter the race for weeks, and is already scheduled to appear at the first GOP presidential primary debate in South Carolina next week.

Moreover, he also formed a "testing the waters" account earlier this month that allows him to raise funds for a potential campaign.

Paul has already made the rounds in Iowa and New Hampshire courting key activists, and he won a county straw poll in South Carolina just this month.

Former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson (R), is expected to compete with Paul for the libertarian vote, but Paul is by far the more well-known candidate in the field and should easily overshadow Johnson.

Paul last ran for president in 2008, and was placed second in the key primary state of Nevada, and it was notable that he appealed to younger voters and for his ability to raise money online with his highly successful "money bomb", which he successfully replicated for his political action committee in February 2011.

* A money bomb is a short burst of fundraising that typically spans a day or just a few hours, and is relies on viral advertising.

Having looked at lots of talkbacks on different sites, I can tell you that Ryan is very very popular.

INTERVIEWER: Let’s start with the big picture, President Obama’s budget for 2012, for the next fiscal year that starts next October, calls for a five-year freeze on nondefense discretionary spending he says would save $400 billion. No addressing of entitlements. How is your budget different?

RYAN: His freeze locks in very high spending levels. It’s really more of a floor to gain (ph) — with 24 percent increase in discretionary spending. If we go to 2008 levels, we’d get another $400 billion on top of that over the next 10 years.

Nothing on entitlements. He does nothing to address the drivers of our debt. The public debt will double in his first term and triple by the end of his budget. He adds $13 trillion more to our debt.

He’s punting on the budget and not doing a thing to prevent a debt crisis, which every single economist tells us is coming sooner rather than later in this country. We will address these issues.

INTERVIEWER: All right, let’s talk about your budget. Widely reported that your budget will cut spending by $2 trillion over the next decade. True?

RYAN: Well, it’s more than that, quite a bit more than that.

INTERVIEWER: Three trillion?

RYAN: More than that.

INTERVIEWER: Four trillion?

RYAN: We’re looking at more than that right now. We’re fine- tuning our numbers with the Congressional Budget Office literally today, over the weekend. But we’re going to be cutting a lot more than that.

INTERVIEWER: So more than $4 trillion, which is a significant number, because that was the president’s debt commission cut the deficit by $4 trillion.

RYAN: Yes, we will be exceeding the goals that were put out in the president’s debt commission.

So how would a Ryan-Trump ticket play out?

Until quite recently I’d never really seriously considered Donald Trump as a serious GOP presidential candidate.

But we live and learn (hopefully), because a new poll puts Trump in second place in the GOP presidential field, just behind former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and tied with former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee!

Among Republican primary voters, Romney leads with 21%, followed by Trump and Huckabee, who each garnered 17%. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich stood at 11% and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin got 10%.

So, Could Trump Really Be The GOP Nominee?

Firstly, the results say as much about the rest of the field as they do about Trump.

About half of the field is basically unknown to all but the most highly engaged Republican voters, so it’s should be no surprise that the two men tied for second place both have their own TV shows.

Secondly, the race for the nomination is not a national contest, but is fought state by state and how Trump plays in Iowa, New Hampshire, and South Carolina will be more important than how he polls among the broader Republican electorate.

Thirdly, is Trump really ready to do the kind of retail politicking that’s generally considered needed to win over voters in these states?

Kissing endless babies and shaking millions of hands!

Fourthly, what happens when Trump has to actually answer questions about his business dealings, personal life and views on issues?

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie expressed skepticism over a Trump presidential candidacy during an interview Wednesday with ABC News anchor Diane Sawyer.

"Donald’s a really good friend of mine. I don’t know that Donald really wants to be president", he said.

"We’ve spoken about it, and all I can say to you is that, you know, I’ll believe it when I see it," Christie said. "I think he likes what he does. I think he likes building things. And I think he likes being on TV, and you know, he does that well".

Even so, Trump has scheduled speaking appearances in two important early nominating states, Iowa and New Hampshire in June, and has said that he will announce his decision about the 2012 race following them.

Money Talks!

Sadly, money goes a long long way to buying the Presidency in the US and Trump has lots of it!

So How Much Money Does Donald Trump Really Have?

Current studies have shown him to be worth 2.9 billion dollars, but, in truth, even Donald Trump may not know exactly how much money he does have, because many things could change his net worth such as, real estate values, the dollar rate, and investment portfolios etc.

And however much he’s worth he could easily outspend everyone else that’s in the running right now; and that includes Obama if Trump were to be nominated.

But The Press Don’t Like Him ?!

The press can be bought, and especially now!

If Trump were to start spending tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars on advertising with a newspaper, then pretty much every newspaper editor would tell journalists to back off their criticisms, because they need the money.

And the above must logically lead one to the question, "Is America a democracy?".

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) who is considering a run for the GOP nomination, raised a very impressive $2 million plus during the first quarter of the year!

How did she do it?

$1.7 million came from her congressional campaign account, and another $500,000 for her federal political action committee, MichelePAC.

So far, Bachmann’s first quarter number tops the rumored 2012 field, and she just edged out former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, who raised $1.9 million through his Free and Strong America PAC.

Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas), who’s still deciding on another presidential bid, raised just over $1 million for his Liberty PAC.

Her fundraising prowess was already evident during the 2010 cycle, when she raised a staggering $13.5 million for her House race, and this impressive first quarter haul shows Bachmann could be a fundraising force if she opted for a run next year.

But proving it so early in a wide open presidential primary battle is perhaps doubly important.

The fundraising figure comes just as Bachmann has made her presence known in the early states of Iowa and New Hampshire and the potential 2012 contender has stepped up her appearances in both early states and is already putting together staff in anticipation of a run.

Should Bachmann move forward, she’d form an exploratory committee by June at the latest.

The White House faced a choice: give up on Eisen or re-submit his nomination and 'fess up to deceiving Grassley so that Eisen might ultimately be confirmed. The White House chose to 'fess up — sort of. After weeks of back-and-forth, Eisen has written a letter to … "It was clear to me that Mr. Eisen made false and inaccurate statements," the senator said in a statement. "He personally apologized and admitted to the basic factual findings of my inquiry, which was enough …

Just look at how liberals and the media through the self-serving euphemisms of “choice” or “reproductive rights,” have always been the driving force behind our national shame of slaughtering over 50 million innocent human beings in the womb. … It is not odd at all they do not attack the gross moral failings of Democrats, because liberals do not care if their candidates are moral degenerates, because any expressions of faith by Democrats are all false anyway and …

What Are False Choices?

Well the short clip below features Mr. Rogers (R-Michigan) pointing out the false choices being offered on the health care bill back in July 2009, and it might be more explanatory than anything that I can write.

Obama’s False Choices

President Obama has employed the false-choice device in assessing financial reform, environmental regulation, defense contracting, civil liberties, crime policy, health care, the deployment of troops in Iraq, Native Americans, the space program and, most recently, the situation in Libya.

On his recent South American trip, he pulled off a false-choice trifecta, citing,

“The old stale debates between state-run economies and unbridled capitalism".

"Between the abuses of right-wing paramilitaries and left-wing insurgents".

"Between those who believe that the United States causes all the region’s problems, and those who believe that the United States ignores all the problems”.

The false-choice trick can however take varying forms, with one of them known as, “the false false choice, which is an Obama specialty, and it’s pulled off by setting up two unacceptable extremes that no one is seriously advocating, and then positioning yourself as the champion of the reasonable middle ground between those unidentified straw-men.

Take Obama on health care, when he was still on the presidential campaign:

“I reject the tired old debate that says that we have to choose between two extremes, government-run health care with higher taxes, or insurance companies without rules denying people coverage”.

Not only was it a false choice, but they were also choices that no one, and certainly no other politician were proposing.

Or Obama on financial reform:

“We need not choose between a chaotic and unforgiving capitalism and an oppressive government-run economy. That is a false choice that will not serve our people or any people”.

Was anybody advocating either extreme?

Tricky Dicky

Richard Nixon was perhaps the first US president to offer a “false choice” in a 1969 commencement address:

“Let us not, then, pose a false choice between meeting our responsibilities abroad and meeting the needs of our people at home. We shall meet both or we shall meet neither”.

George W. Bush

The recent Republican usage has mostly often used a third version, which might be called, “false choice as wishful thinking”.

“They said that we had to choose between cutting the deficit and keeping taxes low”.

Well, you most likely know how the decision to spend an illusory surplus, using unaffordable tax cuts turned out!

The former governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee was born on August 24, 1955, in Hope, Arkansas, which is the same small town where former U.S. President Bill Clinton was born just nine years earlier.

Although Huckabee is perhaps the perfect example of what a conservative republican candidate should stand for and a large portion of social conservatives still support him, I still believe that he would have major problems running against Obama because.

Huckabee is a staunch opponent of g** marriage and gun control.

That said, in the extremely early 2012 election polls, Huckabee has been leading amongst Republicans and has the strongest showing when matched against Barack Obama.

He is also a staunch opponent of racism and anti-Semitism, and although it’s still unclear where Barak Obama stands on these issues, we do know that his wife Michelle is an out and out racist.

Huckabee won the 2008 Iowa Caucus but ultimately finished second to John McCain in the 2008 republican primaries nomination, and he was then ridiculed for his reluctance to bow out of the race even after it was quite clear that he couldn’t win.

Following that loss he was quoted as saying "I’m not ruling anything out for the future, but I’m not making any specific plans".

Then in late November 2009, he said that a 2012 presidential bid, "is less likely rather than more likely just because I would have to see that the Republicans would be willing to unite behind me".

He also says it’s far too early to say what he will do and that the November 2010 congressional election results will affect his decision.

But his recent skit on "political correctness" demonstrates that he has a sense of humor and a great memory, along with political astuteness!

Call her Sarah Palin without the public appeal. Rick Santorum just cannot get any traction. … Jon Huntsman would have been a good candidate if he hadn't gone to work for Obama in 2009. Unfortunately, that leads some to …

Why not Palin?

Palin has two major problems to overcome (only liberal claim she’s done) if she wants to be chosen as the Republican presidential candidate:

Most of her own party believes she too extreme to get elected President.

Given such fast-deteriorating conditions, many Republican veterans have come around to the view that they aren't really going to need the perfect presidential candidate, and perhaps not even a notably good one. With Chris Christie having taken himself out of the running — again — earlier this month, the field of candidates now appears to be pretty much set, and none of them are likely to inspire any reimaginings of Mount Rushmore. But maybe all the moment …

Newsmax is reporting that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is reconsidering a run for The White House. In other words, there is a bit of a confidence crisis about Rick Perry, particularly after his recent debate performances.

Personally, I think that Chris Christy (Governor of New Jersey) would have the best chance of beating Obama, but he’s said on many occasions that he’s not ready to run.

Is he bluffing?

Well the last time he got asked the question, he replied, "What do I have to do to make you believe that I’m not going to run? Commit suicide?".

Saying that he’s not ready yet is a pretty honest statement and the guy can be very honest and straight forward.
