10 Arizona Sheriffs Call For Eric Holder to Resign or Be Fired

milwaukee.wisgop.info10/10/11

Sheriff Paul Babeu led a press conference with 9 other Arizona sheriffs today, to blast Attorney General Eric Holder and the Administration for the disastrous.

Currently, 123 House Republicans have demanded Holder’s resignation and signed an official resolution of “no confidence” in him or both of them.

If Eric Holder Doesn't Resign He must Be Fired!

Three U.S. senators, two sitting governors and all GOP presidential candidates have now joined them.

And many more lawmakers and other political figures have either called for Holder’s resignation or expressed disgust with his job performance as well.

Texas Republican Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison had harsh words for Attorney General Eric Holder last week, but she didn’t say if she’s backing the surge in calls for Eric Holder’s resignation.

“There are serious questions about several of the programs that he is implementing, like Fast and Furious, and other areas where I don’t think he is making the right priorities in the administration. I think it’s a serious thing to call for a resignation, but I did not vote for his confirmation and I think that he was not equipped to handle the Justice Department".

Hutchison is also upset with how Holder’s DOJ has handled the case surrounding the late Alaska Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, since it appears that Prosecutors hid evidence.

“Fast and Furious was unspeakably bad, and I think that with the prosecutors from the Public Integrity Section still prosecuting even after the reports have come out about the abuse that they made against Ted Stevens,” Hutchison said. “It just shows that we’re not holding up to the standard of justice that the people of our country expect".

Alabama Republican Sen. Jeff Sessions also declined to say whether he backs the surge in Congress demanding Holder’s resignation either, but he also had sharp criticisms for the attorney general.

“There’s been, really, a growing disappointment in the attorney general’s leadership, frankly, and I’m sorry to see it happen. But, I do think they’ve taken quite a number of decisions that appear to be driven by politics rather than law".

Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, an independent who caucuses with Democrats, even said he has some issues with how Holder has run the DOJ.

“The question is, ‘Does the president have confidence in him?’. He serves at the pleasure of the president. So, I agree with some of the things Attorney General Holder has done, and I disagree with other things he’s done, but those are judgments for the president".

Operation Fast and Furious

Around 2,000 guns were sent to Mexican drug cartels.

At least 300 Mexican citizens were murdered.

Border Patrol agent Brian Terry was murdered.

And allegations have surfaced that Fast and Furious weapons were also used to murder Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent Jaime Zapata.

US DOT Bans Cell Phone Use By Truckers and Bus Drivers

kansascity.injuryboard.com11/29/11

From the US Department of Transportation: U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood today announced a final rule specifically prohibiting interstate truck and bus drivers from using handheld cell

A comprehensive study, that was commissioned by the non-profit Governors Highway Safety Association, and funded by State Farm Insurance concluded that there is no conclusive evidence that hands-free cell phone use while driving is any less risky than hand-held cell phone use.

And it also suggests that there is no evidence that cell phone or texting bans have in any way, reduced crashes.

The findings come after nine states have imposed bans on hand-held cell phone use while driving, and thirty four states have imposed texting bans for drivers behind the wheel.

Despite the findings, The Governors Highway Safety Association does not recommend that restrictions on cell phone use or texting be lifted in any of the states where they presently exist.

But it does recommend that those forty one states which don’t ban talking on a cell phone hold off on enacting new legislation.

The study found, and suggests that:

Drivers are frequently distracted by any number of factors ranging from eating, to talking to texting, perhaps as much as 50% of the time they spend behind the wheel.

Drivers adapt by paying more attention to driving and and less to distractions, when the road risk level increases.

States should enforce existing distracted driving laws, but should consider that such enforcement takes away from other traffic enforcement efforts.

Two-thirds of all motorists reported using a cell phone while driving and about one-third of them routinely.

One-eighth of all drivers reported texting while driving, although observational studies during the daylight hours in 2009, suggested that only 1% of all drivers were observed to be texting.

In conclusion

The authors make a number of recommendations including;

Enacting a total ban of cell phone use for novice drivers.

A total ban on texting bans for all drivers.

Greater use of highway engineering solutions, such as rumble strips and automotive technological innovations which are said help reduce distracted driving accidents.
