And Will OB And Scott Brown Soon Be Shooting Hoops?

Can Brown out charismatic Obama?

It seems like many people are now pouring their hopes and dreams into “The New One”, following their grave disappointment with “The Old One”, and even Indonesia is now talking about tearing down a statue of the Old One.

Will Obama’s Oneness Be One-Upped?

The three questions that are now being asked more and more frequently are,

“Why settle for a fake populist when we can have a real one?”.

“Why settle for shady populism when we can have sunny populism?”.

“Why settle for Ivy League cool when we can have Cosmo hot?”.

Who cares if the envious British press who have a very different and dowdy kind of Brown, are referring to our far more streamlined version as, “The former nude centrefold”, when many of Washington’s who’s who’s are now jostling to touch the hem of possibly President-elect Brown?

The capital is truly abuzz, with, “What did Scott say about that?”, ” Has anybody checked with Scott?”, ” Let’s not make a move without consulting Scott!”.

Mitch McConnell, who is the Senate Majority Leader has already nicknamed Brown, “41,”thereby usurping Poppy Bush’s nickname, and some in the Obama White House apparently wonder if the wonder from Wrentham, Mass., will be The Next One!

* I believe the term “Poppy Bush” came about because of the CIA-funded opium poppies in Afghanistan.

Even John McCain, was apparently thrilled that such an unknown of just a week ago would set up Robocalls in and effort to support him in his tightening Arizona re-election race.

*Robocall is a term for an automated telemarketing phone call that uses both a computerized auto-dialer and a computer-delivered recorded message.

So Who Is Scott Brown?

He is perhaps the fresh face and the disarming underdog that America’s been waiting for.

He is someone who suffered through his parents’ divorce, and then watched his mom go on welfare.

He survived some errant youthful behavior and became a successful lawyer.

He’s now a lawmaker and a devoted family guy who also does dog duty.

He’s someone that’s always up for a game of pickup basketball, and loves talking sports.

He’s charismatic and boasts great beefcake photos.

And last but not least, he’s a pro-choice phenomenon that’s been propelled into higher office by conservatives, independents and Democrats.

And Who Is Obama?

The sad truth is that we really don’t know because he was careful to conceal his past.

We do know that just 13 years ago that he was a member of the New Party and was therefore an active communist.

Whereas Obama had to force himself to nibble French fries and drink beer during the Pennsylvania primary, Brown truly loves diners, Pepsi, Waffle Houses and the masses.

Obama is now coming across as plastic and cold, rather than a warm and accessible all-American guy.

What Does OB Have To Say About Brown?

Obama told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos that “The same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into office. People are angry and they’re frustrated”.

If that sounds like camaraderie, then perhaps it won’t be long before we see the New One and the Old One shooting hoops, and may the best ONE win!

The Banks Are Now Indebted to Governments

Just last week Obama promised to spend hundreds of billions of taxpayers’ dollars to prop up the sinking U.S. economy and Gordon Brown’s British government announced that it would take from the “rich” in order to finance an economic rescue.

The Bush administration has all but nationalized the world’s largest bank, the Citigroup and it has also thrown in an additional $800bn to attempt to thaw America’s starving credit markets.

The banks meanwhile are pretending that they are still answerable to their shareholders whereas they are in fact only surviving with very explicit financial guarantees from their governments.

In spite of extreme attempts at resuscitation the markets continue to lack confidence however and if nothing changes soon then capitalist countries will have little choice but to assume even more direct control and even possibly take direct ownership of their banks.

In the U.S. and Britain, the centre-left understood more than a decade ago that if it wanted to win elections that it would have to accept Reagan-Thatcher economics and Bill Clinton promised the end of big government.

The bottom line is however that main street America did not vote to throw out the capitalist baby with the bathwater and the leading members of Mr. Obama’s new economic team are amongst the most enthusiastic believers in liberal markets.

Financial boundaries have moved and although downswings always created a backlash they were more often than not forgiven because of the following upswing, but this time the bust was so much more severe that the effect of the crash will be felt long after the actual recovery occurs meaning that ‘forgiveness’ will be much later in coming.

The public no longer trusts the market and it’s not clear whether president elect Obama and other leaders will be able to right the wrongs at any time soon, but what is certain is that financial thinking and the world’s markets will never be the same again.
